Plymouth Portrait Photographer | GOLD in the SWPP
Wow I can't believe that I got a gold award in last months competition in the SWPP.
There are 26 categories that cover all aspects of photography and it is judged by some of the most esteemed Fellow, Master and Grand Master photographers in the UK and across the world. All entries which gain the coveted ‘Gold’ award are put forward to our annual judging and, if deemed to be the best, can gain their maker a prestigious ‘Photographer of the Year’ Award within its category at our annual Awards Dinner.
I enter competitions not for the awards but to develop as a professional photographer, the journey you take by entering your work makes you think about the image you have taken, is it technically right, is the edit complimenting the image, does it tell a story and does it have the wow factor all these contribute to an image. Learning what certain competitions look for in images is a challenge and I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and achieving the awards I have achieved has been a testament to the hard work I have put in and the dedication to training to achieve better quality in my work.
Not every image I take will be a gold image, and I don't shoot every image for competition as shooting for competition and shooting for my clients are completely different, but I do like to shoot one or too images a session that I have planned in some way before the shoot that is a signature shot and one I will aim to perfect technically in order to use it for competition. I do believe the standard of my work since entering competitions has improved and I look forward to continuing my development and enjoying my craft.
