Every now and then as a professional photographer you get asked to do something out of your comfort zone, something a little different to what you are used to and I love these challenges, it keeps you on your toes. Well this children's photoshoot in Plymouth was something that offered a challenge or two as it was in the clients family swimming pool. We started with a fun portrait session in the garden, utilising the lovely features and backdrops the garden had to offer, and of course I had my little red car with me which always goes down well, we also had some fun with super hero moves, including, batman, superman and the hulk to name a few.
After a lot of playing around being super heroes we headed to the pool and thats when I hit my first problem, the temperature inside the pool house made my camera steam up so I had to allow time for my gear to acclimatise before continuing the rest of the shoot. Once my gear had adjusted we went back to having more fun but this time in the pool, and Joe had a splashing time, with lots of super jumps and spins, I took a documentary approach to this session, capturing him having fun and doing what he normally would when heading to the pool for a swim and play.
I must admit portrait sessions like this are really fun, capturing children in an environment that they enjoy being in, an environment thats not staged or posed in any way, I really feel children show there true characters in these situations and it really comes across in the images as you can see below.
Thank you for taking time to read this blog post, I sure had a great time documenting this session, and would love to hear what you think so please feel free to leave a comment below. If you would like to book a session please get in touch and contact me to discuss your session.
